Check safe alternatives before arranging home entry
Contact another household member or a trusted person who already holds an authorized spare. If you rent, ask the landlord or property manager about their approved process. Do not climb to a window, enter an unsafe area or damage the door in frustration. A simple lockout can become a more expensive and hazardous problem when an entry attempt causes an injury or additional damage.

Explain the home lockout when arranging help
Give the exact address and a contact number that works where you are waiting. Explain whether the key is lost, inside, broken or refusing to turn. Mention any recent damage or failed attempts. Ask what evidence of permission to enter is required and how the technician will identify themselves. If a landlord must authorize work, arrange that conversation before the visit when possible.
Agree on entry and any follow-up work separately
